Hello July! We have made it to the season of beach, pool, summer shopping and for some.. Vacation. The Summer heat wave has made it’s grand arrival and the challenge is trying to stay cool. For many Fashionistas, Summer leisure time skimming through a few style magazines can definitely be considered a ritual to say the least. In honor of Summer and to celebrate our Nation’s Fourth of July Holiday, how can we not reference an all time Fashion favorite, VOGUE.Here are some “Vogue Archives” that may inspire you to have some light and breezy fun this season. As we navigate through the fickle days of Spring many of us can’t help but daydream and look toward the warmer days of Summer. For many, the Summer season means Vacation and Travel time. One Style at a Time normally brings you posts on Fashion & trends, but today the subject is geared toward the inspiration of Travel & Style. Many Fashionistas automatically think New York or Paris when it comes to the most Fashion driven cities but today the country of choice is a personal favorite…ITALY.For as long as I can remember Italy has always been a dream vacation destination and I hope to visit one day. It’s no mystery that this beautiful country is so rich in Art, Culture, Food, Wine & Spirits and of course Fashion. Italy brings us the world renown Milan Fashion Week that include master designers like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Versace among many others. When it comes to Film, many actresses have lit up the screen and raced the pulse of many with their timeless beauties and sex appeal (see examples below). Italy is known for it’s History and Art that no matter what city you decide to visit you are guaranteed an enriching experience.For the movie lovers, this past April a new Woody Allen film premiered quite successfully in Italy called “To Rome With Love” starring Penelope Cruz, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin among others (See trailer below). The US limited release is dated for this summer on June 22, 2012 (perfect timing, my Birthday). Wedding Season has arrived and so has the Bridal trends for Spring 2013. No matter what season the Bride chooses, it’s by far a special time. It’s no secret that a major highlight to this event is none other than “The Dress”. Every new Bride to be is excited about the endless possibilities when it comes to picking the right dress that “feels perfect”. It’s not an easy task but remember it’s a special moment. The aim in the end is to feel like a goddess and at ease for that much anticipated day.In recent days designers like Oscar de la Renta, Reem Acra, Marchesa and many others have presented new Bridal Collections for Spring 2013. The most visible trends were detailed vintage lace, higher necklines, florals, one shoulder, sleeves and voluminous skirts. When it came to color ivories, champagne and white were still very much the staple. However, there were some bold statements that were made perhaps for the more modern bride. Vera Wang showed reds and scarlett hues, De la Renta and Herrera showed pantsuits and hints of light blue, Lhuillier included flirty short hemmed options.

Here at One Style at a Time we have a special place for the Golden Age of Cinema and Hollywood. We have made no secret of our admiration for vintage fashion and the link with stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe etc… The Latin culture had a golden starlet and icon of their own.Maria de los Angeles Felix Guerena was born in Sonora, Mexico. She was by far one of the most famous, respected and legendary film actresses of the golden era in Mexico and throughout Latin America. She starred in over 47 movies and was known as a Mexican Goddess and Diva. She also was known to be called ”Maria Bonita (Pretty Maria), and la Dona”, the latter came from her role in the movie, “Dona Barbara” one of her most famous films.She was known to be a collector of fine antiques and jewelry. In the fashion world she was a regular fixture with Fashion designers such as Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent designing many gowns for Maria.Back in March of this year, V Magazine featured model Daria Werbowy in a “Maria Felix” inspired editorial spread. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since Audrey Hepburn lit up the screens in her little black dress as Holly Golightly. This amazing film has definitely grown in popularity throughout the years and decades. For women and fashionistas everywhere, this movie is at the top of the list. The glamour, charm and sophistication Audrey brought to this character seems to transcend generations. In a time when bold colors, florals and patterns were at a peak in fashion, Holly Golightly gave us a timeless, elegant LBD. Now in honor of this 50th milestone, this classic film has been remastered and a blue-ray DVD is now available.

Now that fall has made its way to our day to day you are wondering what to wear during this transitional time. It’s not too cold but at times you need a bit of coverage for those breezy days ahead where at times the fickle days of fall approach us. If you are not ready to bring out a trench coat, cape or leather jacket, here is a great classic option with great warmth for autumn: Tweed!Since the days before Coco Chanel, who introduced a more feminine style of tweed, woman have always opted to use this fabric for fall-winter. From menswear to even childrenswear as you will see in the images in this post, tweed makes a great addition to your fall wear. It can now be found not just in apparel but also in shoes, handbags, belts, hats etc. Tweeds can be combined with denim, leather, dressed up or worn casually. This is one style that will continue to have staying power for many years to come.

I would like to take a brief fashion week pause in remembrance of a woman who epitomized class, poise, talent and beauty. I am referring to Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. It’s hard to believe that it is now 29 years later of her passing. Although the decades have gone by, she continues to delight us with archives of her photos, movies and so much more.
In the fashion and film industries she is very well respected and honored. I can’t help remembering how much admiration my mother had for Grace when I was growing up. Her dresses and popular hair styles were always an inspiration for my mother. Even more so in the 80’s when many times she was pictured wearing a braided up do. That was one of my mother’s favorite looks in her later years as well. It’s hard not to miss a woman that was royalty not only in Monaco but in our nation as well. She represented great style and elegance. Today we honor her and revive her memory and legacy. Let’s look back at some truly timeless images of a Princess that lives on forever.
